Do We Really Need the New VoxEdit?

Hi folks! 👋 This is a short message aimed at shedding light on a topic that honestly surprises me and raises some questions.

I'm talking about the new VoxEdit.

What Happened?

I love the OG VoxEdit - it was brilliant in its simplicity. Its interface was incredibly intuitive and well-balanced. It felt like the UX designer had crafted every element with care, making sure each button was exactly where it should be. Everything just worked! 🤌

But then came the new VoxEdit. And to this day, I still don’t understand why it was needed. Yes, it looks nice. Yes, you can move the windows around. But was it worth it?
It used to be a fast and elegant tool. Now it lags heavily, templates take over a minute to load.

One minute, Carl!

Back in the day, I used to work 8 hours a day in Game Maker, for years. But now, I honestly don’t even want to open it - the new interface feels sluggish and unpolished. And just for the record: I’m using a gaming laptop that runs Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra settings.

Ever since the new VoxEdit came out, I’ve completely stopped modeling in it. It just feels unpleasant - even the cursor movement looks choppy and strains the eyes. 💀

Was It Worth It?

I hope so. Maybe the company plans to rebuild the editor's core for the future. Maybe the new models are more optimized under the hood, or something good is happening behind the scenes. But I haven’t noticed any real improvements.

The new interface doesn't feel like a killer feature.
Not only is it slow, but I'm not even sure the floating windows were something the community really needed.

What we actually need is an updated editor with features like low-poly spheres and rounded shapes. That’s a real necessity. Right now, people use all sorts of complicated methods to make spheres, and the result is always messy - with extra polygons sticking out everywhere. It just doesn’t look good. 🤔

The End

That’s really all I wanted to say. This post isn’t meant to criticize the company or the VoxEdit dev team - they know what they’re doing. 👉👈

The goal is simply to draw attention to a real issue. And that issue isn’t just about the questionable polish of an otherwise great tool - it’s that the entire ecosystem has long needed deeper changes. I’ve already written about those in this post.

Thanks for reading!
